THE 11TH ARRONDISSEMENT HAS ALWAYS BEEN KNOWN FOR ITS EDGY FASHION SENSE. LOOKING AT THE YOUNG PUNK KIDS HANGING OUT IN FRONT OF LEGENDARY LIVE VENUES LIKE LA MÉCANIQUE ONDULATOIRE, OR LA MÉCA AS THE LOCALS CALL IT, YOU’LL SEE MOHAWK-STYLE HAIRDOS AND VINTAGE T-SHIRTS SPORTING IMAGES OF AMERICAN HARD CORE BANDS LIKE TURNSTILE. IF YOU CLAIM TO BE ROCK ’N’ ROLL HERE, YOU’D BETTER DRESS LIKE YOU REALLY MEAN IT.
Adöm is the perfect vintage shop for those who want to look the part. Founded over 15 years ago, Adöm has two stores opposite one another – one for men (at 35 Rue de la Roquette) and one for women (at 56). This family-run business is managed by the energetic Rebecca and her brother Mickaël, who travel to the very best flea markets across Europe to stock their Parisian shops. Above all, at Adöm you’ll find shoes – boots, pumps and leather moccasins galore. The store finds the perfect balance between garments that you would find in the wardrobes of music-fashion icons such as Siouxsie Sioux or Yves Tumor, and basics like Levi’s jeans and amazing bomber jackets.
What makes Adöm so special, however, is the service. You’ll always get an objective opinion from Rebecca and her staff. If the item you’ve picked doesn’t flatter you, they will tell you frankly, but nicely. And unlike many other vintage stores, you don’t have to turn the whole place upside down to find that rare item or an incredible gem. Here, everything is neatly sorted and arranged, leaving no question as to why this is Paris’ best stop for that perfect vintage piece.
